ZKP和EVM被并称为Web 2.0向Web 3.0演化的两个重要入口。
什么是ZKP？零知识证明为Zero Knowledge Proof（ZKP），是一种能够允许用户不泄露敏感信息但是又能够证明自己的关键数据和所有权的方式。再加密应用中，ZKP可以在证明用户拥有钱包私钥的情况下不泄露私钥的信息，从而保护数据的隐私。目前，ZKP分为交互式和非交互式两种，前者要求证明者对每个验证者相互区分，并且对每个验证者发送所需要验证的数据并且重复执行相同操作，非交互性则允许证明者一次性公开验证所需的数据，让验证过程更高效。
什么是EVM？EVM全称为Ethereum Virtual Machine，也叫做“以太坊虚拟机”。目前，以太坊在其区块链上加入了智能合约（Smart Contract），因此为了保持智能合约的准确性和安全性，保障智能合约的运行环境非常重要。在这一要求和前提下，EVM提供了一个虚拟的环境，让不同的用户在不同的终端上通过运行这一个虚拟系统来解决系统的差异，是一种以太坊智能合约的运行环境。
而ZKP+EVM合并起来，便组成了一个兼容EVM但是同时对零知识证明友好的虚拟机 — — zkEVM。
zkEVM如何工作？与 EVM 一样，zkEVM 也是一个基于程序操作结果而在不同状态之间转换的虚拟机。但 zkEVM进一步地拓展了EVM的功能，通过产生一个”证明“来确认计算的每一部分是正确的。目前，zkEVM 分为三个部分：执行环境、证明电路和验证者合约，相互影响了 zkEVM 的程序执行、证明生成和证明验证。
重要性。通过使用zkEVM，用户不仅可以省略交易输入，其有效性证明的存在保证了状态转换的可信性，进一步减少对 调用数据（CallData）的需求，从而降低成本。同时，它弥补了EVM没有不泄露敏感信息的缺憾，吸引了更多开发者和用户使用以太坊，壮大了以太坊作为世界第一公链的生态繁荣。此外，与 EVM 兼容的 zk-rollups（一种扩容解决方案，在单笔交易中对大量资金转移进行集中处理以提升扩容性） 可以在解决以太坊扩展问题的同时，而不破坏网络安全性。智能合约在 L2 上执行的交易可以在 L1 上得到验证，但无需节点重新执行操作。
